Placement Policy
1. Introduction
The Placement Cell at SIBGA Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS), affiliated to Kannur University, has been established with the aim of facilitating employment opportunities for undergraduate students and supporting them in career readiness. The Cell bridges the gap between academia and industry by coordinating campus recruitment drives, skill development initiatives, and career guidance sessions.
2. Vision
To empower students with the skills, exposure, and guidance necessary to secure meaningful employment and pursue successful careers in their respective fields.
3. Objectives
- To provide a platform for students to connect with potential employers.
- To develop employability skills through training programmes, workshops, and internships.
- To facilitate industry interaction, career counseling, and mentorship.
- To promote entrepreneurship and higher education opportunities.
4. Courses Covered
The Placement Cell caters to students from all undergraduate programmes:
- BSc Geography
- BSc Psychology
- BBA
- BCA
- BCom (Computer Application)
- BCom (Cooperation)
- BA English
5. Structure and Functioning
The Placement Cell shall function under the guidance of the Principal and is coordinated by a Placement Officer, assisted by faculty coordinators and a student committee from each department.
Roles:
- Placement Officer: Overall supervision, industry liaison, event planning.
- Faculty Coordinators: Department-level support and student guidance.
- Student Committee: Communication, data collection, logistics.
6. Eligibility for Placement Assistance
- Only final-year students of UG programmes are eligible to participate.
- Students must have a minimum of 75% attendance and no serious disciplinary issues.
- Academic eligibility (minimum pass marks or as per company requirements) must be maintained.
- Registration with the Placement Cell is mandatory.
7. Placement Process
- Pre-placement talks and job notification circulars will be shared with registered students in WhatsApp groups.
- Students will submit their updated resumes and express interest in specific job opportunities.
- The Cell will coordinate with companies to schedule interviews and selection processes (on-campus/off-campus/virtual).
- Selected students must accept the offer formally and are expected to join the organization as per agreed terms.
8. Training & Development
The Cell will organize periodic training sessions on:
- Resume writing and LinkedIn profile creation
- Group discussions and personal interviews
- Soft skills and communication
- Aptitude and reasoning
- Industry-specific workshops (IT, Commerce, Management, Humanities, etc.)
9. Internships and Career Guidance
The Placement Cell will facilitate internships for interested students, particularly in BBA, BCom, and BCA streams. Guidance for civil services, higher studies, and competitive exams (e.g., UPSC, PSC, NET) will also be provided in collaboration with external experts.
10. Code of Conduct
- Students must maintain professionalism during the recruitment process.
- Misrepresentation of information, lack of punctuality, or non-compliance with company norms may lead to disqualification.
- Once a student receives a job offer, they may not be allowed to appear for further placement processes unless permitted.
11. Data Management and Reporting
- A placement database shall be maintained with student profiles, company visits, offers made, and feedback from recruiters.
- Annual placement reports will be prepared for academic review and institutional benchmarking.
12. Industry Linkages
The Cell will actively seek collaborations with local industries, corporates, educational institutions, and alumni for placement support. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) may be signed to promote sustained engagement.
13. Review and Feedback
Annual feedback from students, alumni, and recruiters will be collected. The policy and procedures shall be reviewed periodically to incorporate industry trends and student needs.
