Duties and Responsibilities of the Principal

1. Academic Leadership

  • Provide leadership in planning, organizing, and implementing academic programs as per the guidelines of the affiliating university and UGC.
  • Monitor curriculum development, teaching-learning quality, and academic calendar adherence.
  • Promote research, innovation, and faculty development programs.
  • Ensure proper conduct of internal and external examinations.

2. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Act as the administrative head of the college, responsible for day-to-day functioning.
  • Supervise teaching and non-teaching staff, manage departments and support services.
  • Organize meetings of statutory bodies such as College Council, Governing Body, IQAC, PTA, etc.
  • Implement government, university, and management policies and decisions.

3. Financial Administration

  • Prepare annual budgets and ensure effective financial planning and utilization.
  • Monitor fund usage from external agencies, if any, such as UGC, RUSA, State Government, and other agencies.
  • Ensure statutory audits and maintain proper accounts and financial transparency.

4. Disciplinary Role

  • Maintain discipline among students and staff.
  • Take preventive and corrective actions regarding indiscipline, misconduct, or grievances.
  • Uphold ethical standards and ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus environment.

5. Liaison and Reporting

  • Serve as the main liaison between the college and external agencies such as the University, Directorate of Collegiate Education (DCE), Govt of Kerala, UGC, and NAAC.
  • Submit reports, returns, and required data to statutory bodies and funding agencies in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with alumni, industry, and the community to enhance institutional partnerships.

6. Student Welfare

  • Ensure implementation of student support services: scholarships, counseling, career guidance, mentoring, and grievance redressal.
  • Promote extracurricular, co-curricular, and extension activities for holistic student development.
  • Support placement and entrepreneurship initiatives.

7. Quality Assurance

  • Head the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and drive quality enhancement initiatives.
  • Facilitate NAAC accreditation, NIRF participation, and ranking processes.
  • Promote best practices in teaching, administration, and governance.

8. Policy Implementation

  • Ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, and policies issued by the affiliating university, UGC, and government.
  • Maintain statutory records such as service books, admission registers, and academic records.

9. Community Engagement

  • Promote social responsibility and outreach through NSS, NCC, clubs, and community-oriented programs.
  • Encourage collaboration with NGOs, local bodies, and other institutions.

10. Institutional Development

  • Lead efforts in infrastructure development, resource mobilization, digitalization, and campus maintenance.
  • Encourage eco-friendly and sustainable practices in the institution.
